Founded in 1919, Marelli designs and produces advanced systems and components for the automotive sector and for motorsport activities, with 43,000 employees, 85 production units and 13 R&D centres in 20 countries.

The group supplies all the major car makers in Europe, North and South America, and Asia. The business areas include Electronic and Lighting Systems, Powertrain components, Suspensions and Shock Absorbers, Exhaust Systems, Plastic Components and Modules. Marelli has a significant presence in the Motorsport sector and in the Aftermarket Parts & Services field.
In the wake of Weber Carburatori, Bologna hosts the headquarters of Marelli Powertrain, the business area that is dedicated to engine electronic control systems, components and systems for an hybrid diesel-electric propulsion, advanced injection systems (GDI – Gasoline Direct Injection), mechatronic systems for the implementation on two and four wheels, and advanced transmission systems.

Bologna also hosts the R&D centre for hybrid-electric development, the laboratory for testing the reliability of the automotive components and the centre dedicated to two-wheel powertrain systems. One of the key headquarters of Marelli Motorsport is also in the Bologna area, and includes all the activities linked to the MotoGP technologies and the development of petrol components (injectors, etc.).
